During a state visit to Malaysia, Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Malaysia’s King Sultan Ibrahim Iskandar reiterated their mutual commitment to bolstering cooperation between their nations. The leaders identified key areas for expanding collaboration, notably in renewable energy, sustainable development, food security, and connectivity. They also underscored the importance of strengthening people-to-people ties, with a particular focus on the younger generations.
In discussions with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, both sides addressed significant regional and global issues, including the ongoing situation in the Middle East. They expressed their steadfast support for international law and the principles of freedom of navigation. This reaffirmation of shared values highlighted the countries’ aligned stance on pivotal international matters.
The visit provided a platform to advance joint infrastructure projects, including the Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link and the Johor–Singapore Special Economic Zone. These initiatives are set to enhance connectivity and economic integration between the two countries, reflecting a shared vision for future growth and development.
Additionally, the leaders explored avenues for future cooperation in critical areas such as education, climate resilience, flood mitigation, and innovation.
