UN Chief Urges Lasting Gaza Ceasefire for Israeli-Palestinian Peace Efforts

by admin477351

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called for a permanent ceasefire in Gaza, emphasizing the need for a lasting political solution and expanded humanitarian efforts. His appeal coincides with the upcoming third anniversary of the October 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of over 1,200 Israelis and foreign nationals and the capture of 251 hostages. Guterres condemned the attack while also highlighting the severe toll on Palestinians, noting the significant loss of life, displacement, and destruction in Gaza.

Guterres pointed out that the ceasefire declared in October 2025 had provided some respite but failed to deliver enduring security or sufficient humanitarian aid, nor did it pave a credible path toward recovery and peace. According to Gaza health authorities, more than 74,200 Palestinians have died during Israel’s military operations in the area.

The UN chief stressed the importance of ending the suffering for both Israelis and Palestinians, advocating for renewed efforts to ensure security, dignity, and protection of rights for all involved. Guterres’s call aims to create conditions conducive to peace and stability in the region.
