During the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit held in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart, Sanae Takaichi, delivered a unified stance against terrorism, specifically targeting groups based in Pakistan. The leaders issued a joint condemnation of militant organizations such as Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM), urging for reinforced international measures to counteract these threats. They emphasized the critical need to hold accountable those responsible for terrorist activities, reaffirming their dedication to combating terrorism in all manifestations.

The summit also addressed specific incidents of terrorism, including the attack in Pahalgam last year and the Red Fort blast in November 2025 in New Delhi. The leaders referred to the United Nations Security Council Monitoring Team Report from July 29, 2025, which mentioned The Resistance Front (TRF). They condemned the acts of cross-border terrorism originating from Pakistan and advocated for a unified global response against all UN-designated terrorist organizations, such as Al Qaeda, ISIS/Daesh, LeT, JeM, and their affiliates. The leaders stressed the necessity for ongoing international collaboration to thwart violent extremism and bolster global security efforts against terrorist networks.

Beyond security concerns, the summit’s agenda included enhancing the strategic and economic ties between India and Japan. Prime Minister Modi, welcoming Takaichi on her inaugural official visit to India as Japan’s leader, praised her as a visionary figure and affectionately referred to her as his “younger sister.” He highlighted the deep historical and cultural bonds between the two nations, particularly noting Takaichi’s origins in Nara Prefecture, a region with strong connections to their shared Buddhist heritage.

Prime Minister Takaichi reciprocated Modi’s sentiments, acknowledging his remarks and highlighting their mutual commitment to advancing bilateral relations “as brother and sister.” Her visit, from July 1 to 3 at Modi’s invitation, culminated in a series of new initiatives focused on fortifying cooperation across strategic, economic, and cultural domains. This summit underscored the enduring partnership between India and Japan, with both countries reaffirming their dedication to regional stability, security, and sustainable development.
