United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has commended Indonesia for its significant role in fostering global peace and supporting multilateral cooperation. Speaking at the Foreign Policy Circle Talks in Jakarta, Guterres acknowledged Indonesia’s diplomatic contributions across the Asia-Pacific region and the Global South, highlighting its active participation in international organizations such as the United Nations, ASEAN, the G20, and BRICS.

Guterres pointed to Indonesia’s historical role in hosting the 1955 Asian-African Conference in Bandung, which emphasized non-alignment and national self-determination. He also underscored the collaboration between ASEAN and the UN in areas like conflict prevention, sustainable development, and human rights.

Indonesia’s involvement in UN peacekeeping operations was a focal point of Guterres’s praise, as nearly 2,000 Indonesian military and police personnel serve across seven UN missions worldwide. During his visit to a peacekeeping training center in Sentul, West Java, he met with Indonesian personnel preparing for deployment to the UN mission in the Central African Republic, lauding the country’s dedication to training and international peacekeeping efforts.

Guterres emphasized that Indonesia’s diplomatic engagement and peacekeeping contributions have bolstered its position in promoting dialogue and cooperation between countries and regions. He expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s commitment to the principles of multilateralism and its efforts in maintaining global peace and security.
