Heavy rainfall in Indonesia’s Cilacap District has led to significant flooding and a landslide, prompting local authorities to initiate emergency response operations. According to the Cilacap Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), several villages remain submerged as of Saturday morning, affecting both residential areas and infrastructure.

The Maos and Kroya sub-districts were particularly impacted, with Mrenek Village experiencing floodwaters between 10 and 20 centimeters deep. In Karangreja Village, water levels reached up to 50 centimeters. While evacuations have not yet been necessary, preparations are underway to support residents should the situation deteriorate, including the establishment of a public kitchen at the village hall.

Kroya’s Mujur Lor and Sikampuh villages also reported flooding, with water levels around 20 centimeters, affecting homes, businesses, and a mosque. Local authorities are working to clear a tributary of the Silunjar River, obstructed by water hyacinth, to prevent exacerbating the flooding situation.

In Jeruklegi’s Cilibang Village, floodwaters have spread over agricultural lands and a main road, although the route remains navigable for vehicles. Meanwhile, a landslide in Mandala Village, also in Jeruklegi, has spurred disaster response teams into action, as they seek heavy machinery to clear the debris.

The BPBD is actively monitoring the affected areas and coordinating efforts with local agencies to manage the crisis and mitigate further damage. Authorities remain vigilant as they respond to the ongoing challenges posed by the severe weather conditions in Central Java.
