Kuala Lumpur: Bukit Aman is working with Indonesian authorities to trace the origin of a threatening text message sent to a Petronas employee at the Bintulu liquefied natural gas (LNG) complex.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail confirmed that early investigations revealed the message came from a phone number registered in a neighbouring country. He noted that cooperation with Indonesia was essential to identify the source, though the process may take time.
The threat prompted Malaysia’s National Security Council to order tighter security at all LNG facilities in Bintulu. Authorities are conducting a detailed investigation to ensure the safety of staff and critical energy infrastructure.
Officials emphasised that collaboration between Petronas, Bukit Aman, and neighbouring countries is vital to prevent potential risks and protect strategic assets.
