Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has condemned the ongoing atrocities in Gaza, describing them as a “return to barbarism in a modern guise.” Speaking at the Kuala Lumpur Conference on a New Just and Humane International Order 2025, Anwar accused global leaders of hypocrisy for advocating human rights while remaining silent on the suffering of Palestinians.
He questioned whether the oppression of Palestinians stems from racial or religious prejudice, urging the international community to confront its moral failure. “The law is cited but never enforced. When power no longer needs to justify itself, barbarism returns dressed in modern, sophisticated clothes,” he said.
Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s firm stance on Gaza, emphasizing that silence is not an option. While he welcomed the latest U.S.-brokered ceasefire initiative, he expressed doubt over Israel’s commitment to honoring the agreement, warning against “another pause between wars.”
Malaysia, alongside South Africa, Bolivia, and Brazil, continues to support the ceasefire with strong reservations, calling for genuine peace and accountability. Anwar concluded by stressing that true justice requires consistency in defending humanity, not selective enforcement of international law.
