Vietnamese Ambassador to Cambodia, Nguyễn Minh Vũ, recently embarked on a diplomatic mission to the northeastern Cambodian provinces of Stung Treng and Kratie. The visit aimed to bolster cooperation between Vietnamese localities and their Cambodian counterparts, as well as to assess the status of Vietnamese enterprises and the Vietnamese-origin community in the region.
During discussions with local Cambodian leaders, both parties explored avenues for enhancing collaboration in several sectors including trade, agriculture, infrastructure, energy, and investment. Cambodian officials underscored the strengthening of relations with Vietnamese provinces through various cooperation agreements, business exchanges, and development initiatives. In particular, Kratie province lauded the significant strides made in diplomatic and socio-economic partnerships with Vietnam, which encompass support for infrastructure projects and joint endeavors in locating and repatriating the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers who perished during the Cambodian wars.
Ambassador Nguyễn Minh Vũ acknowledged the positive impact of Vietnamese enterprises engaged in agriculture, mining, and rubber production within Cambodia. He noted that such ventures are pivotal in fostering local economic growth and enhancing bilateral relations. In Stung Treng, local authorities highlighted the province’s investment potential, especially in high-tech agriculture and eco-tourism, and encouraged increased Vietnamese business interest in tapping these opportunities.
In addition, the ambassador met with representatives of the Vietnamese-origin community to address legal and livelihood concerns, encouraging adherence to local laws while advocating for educational and sustainable development efforts. This engagement underscores Vietnam’s commitment to its diaspora and their integration into host communities.
Vietnam’s investment footprint in Cambodia is significant, with over 200 projects and a total registered capital nearing $3 billion, positioning it as one of Cambodia’s largest foreign investors. This investment is reflective of the deepening economic ties and mutual cooperation between the two nations, further cemented by initiatives such as this diplomatic visit.
